About Lethbridge, Alberta

The City of Lethbridge is located 210 kilometres southeast of Calgary, Alberta, and is only one hour's drive from the Coutts USA-Canada border. It is the fourth largest city in the province with a population of over 94,000 residents living in approximately 38,000 homes. Built on the Oldman River, Lethbridge is a beautiful city nestled amongst fertile farmland and the unique coulee landscape of southern Alberta, set right on the doorstep of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Warm Chinook winds make Lethbridge's winters some of the most moderate in Western Canada, and the city enjoys more sunlight per year than almost anywhere else in the country.

Lethbridge has a robust and expanding economy with core industries that include agriculture, aviation, education, health and transportation. Located at the junction of three major highways (the Crowsnest Highway, Highway 4 and Highway 5) Lethbridge is a commercial and transportation hub serving southern Alberta and northern Montana. The city is well known for its mile-long Viaduct, a spectacular high level rail bridge that rises 300 feet above the Oldman River Valley which was completed in 1909 and is still in use today. Home to two major post secondary institutions, Lethbridge is one of the highest Ph.D per capita cities in Canada, making our workforce one of the smartest and most skilled in the province.

The Oldman River runs through Lethbridge, creating an abundance of river valley parkland enjoyed by both residents and visitors. We have one of the largest urban parkland systems in North America, with over 4,000 acres of protected green space within the city limits. Over 100 parks and natural areas interconnected by more than 140 kilometres of paved multi-use trails show off the scenic coulee landscape of the region.

Lethbridge is a unique city, ideal for growing and active families, with a wide range of services, amenities, recreational options and business opportunities. Lower housing prices combined with a high quality of life make Lethbridge one of the best small cities in the country to call home.
